TikTok’s TV app is now available for more TV devices in the US and Canada

TikTok used Amazon’s Fire TV to test its app for large screens last year, so it’s no surprise that it officially launched its app on the platform earlier this month in the United States. United and Canada. Now the video-focused social network has extended availability of the app and rolled it out to Google TV, other Android TV devices, LG Smart TVs and Samsung Smart TVs.

Although the app still plays bite-sized videos in their original vertical form — a given, as TikTok clips are shot with mobile users in mind — the service has designed it to deliver an experience of viewing on the big screen for the whole family. The elements you see overlaid on the video itself when visiting TikTok on mobile have been rearranged to take advantage of the larger display and horizontal orientation of a TV. Like its mobile counterpart, the TV app will give you access to the For You and Next streams if you log into your account. You’ll also find a Discover page to find more videos and creators you don’t follow yet.

When TikTok announced it was testing a TV app on Fire TV last year, global marketing manager Nick Tran said in a statement:

“People are looking for a community right now and TikTok connects users to content and people that resonate and are meaningful to them. We thought about what embracing streaming devices like Fire TV means to connect with our users and how we can provide them with more dynamic experiences, and we feel that bringing our content to television in some capacity is a natural next step.”
