TelevisaUnivision, the new combined entity formed by the merger of New York-based Univision and Mexico City-headquartered Televisa, has reached an agreement with HMTV DTC, a subsidiary of Hemisphere Media Group, to acquire Pantaya, an American streaming platform, for cash plus a pair of long-running Univision. stations in Puerto Rico: Spanish news/talk WKAQ (580) and Spanish CHR “KQ105” WKAQ-FM.

Under the terms of the agreement, TelevisaUnivision will continue to program WKAQ-FM.

Pantaya is a streaming platform in the United States for movies and TV series in Spanish. It will accompany ViX+, TelevisaUnivision’s global streaming offering, which is expected to launch in the second half of the year.

“Pantaya will thrive under the ownership of TelevisaUnivision,” Hemisphere CEO Alan Sokol said in a statement. will continue to work closely with the Televisa Univision Uforia programming team who, with their deep musical expertise, will continue to program FM station KQ105.”

The transaction is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2022.

Once the deal is done, Hemisphere says it will continue to work closely with TelevisaUnivision, which will continue to program WKAQ-FM. Hemisphere already owns WAPA-TV in Puerto Rico. Once the sale is complete, Univision Radio will still own Spanish CHR WUKQ-FM (98.7) which simulcasts WKAQ-FM, as well as Spanish news WYEL/WUKQ (600/1420) in the market.
