Strong announces super affordable 4K Ultra HD Android TV streaming box with Google Stadia


STRONG today announced the UK launch of its Android TV-based LEAP-S1 4K Ultra HD box, with high dynamic range (HDR) as well as Google Assistant voice search, Chromecast built-in and cloud gaming service Google Stadia 4K HDR.

Offering instant access to Google Play Store’s range of over 5000 apps and video and audio streaming services (including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, BT Sport, My5, YouTube, YouTube Kids), the LEAP-S1 is the perfect, hassle-free way to deliver premium 4K HDR video and Dolby sound to compatible TVs.

Powered by the Android TV 10 operating system (upgradable in the future), the LEAP-S1 is ideal for everyday use, thanks to a powerful quad-core, 1.8 kHz, ARM Cortex-A53 processor, combined with Dual -Band 802.11 ac Wi-Fi 5, 2GB DDR4 RAM plus 8GB Flash storage.

Users can experience their favorite movies and TV shows in enhanced HD, Ultra HD and HDR picture quality. STRONG claims the device has vivid colours, razor-sharp clarity and excellent contrast levels as standard, along with 60fps playback.

Measuring just 110 x 110 x 22mm and weighing 170g, the LEAP-S1 nestles next to any TV without invading the home environment. The simple remote (with dedicated Netflix and Amazon Prime video buttons) has voice control via a Google Assistant mic button.

The LEAP-S1 connects to a TV via an HDMI cable. Setup simply requires turning on the device and connecting to the home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Besides Ethernet LAN and HDMI (2.1a), there’s also Chromecast (for streaming music and HD movies from your smartphone), Bluetooth 4.2, a pair of side USB ports (1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0) , plus a useful microSD slot for further expansion.

As for audio, there is a 3.5mm stereo analogue audio output which allows users to plug in external headphones/amplifiers/speakers while an optical SPDIF connection provides high resolution digital audio output. external DACs, AV receivers or soundbar.

Gaming fans will be able to use the LEAP-S1 to access a vast and growing collection of top-tier video games (currently over 200), courtesy of Google’s Stadia. Hit titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Hitman World of Assassination, F1, FIFA, Red Dead 2, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Borderlands 3 can be played directly over high-speed internet using the LEAP-S1 (using a compatible controller), without the need for a game console or PC and can be streamed seamlessly over home Wi-Fi networks with a minimum bandwidth of 30 Mbps for best results.

Players can purchase individual titles or sign up for Google’s Stadia Pro monthly subscription service. This unlocks a growing library of premium games, many of which come in 4K HDR 60fps video quality with 5.1 channel surround sound, although a compatible display and sound system is required to achieve this level of performance.
